With the development of global green energy policies and various flourishing renewable energy markets, the layout and wiring methods of traditional power grids are no longer sufficient to meet the growing demand for electricity. When a great deal of renewable energy is integrated into the power grid, its intermittent characteristics will impact the operation of the traditional power grid, resulting in frequency variation instability of the system, and further affect power dispatching. Therefore, it will be a new trend to construct smart grids that can solve the above-mentioned instabilities.
A substation is an infrastructure of power supply. While the latest smart grid combined power system with ITC (information and communication technology) in response to the global standardization for IED communication must be built on the basis of the international standard IEC 61850. As one of the teams obtaining the IEC 61850 technical certification in Taiwan, ICP is able to solve the problem of poor interoperability in traditional substations due to inconsistencies among IEDs of different brands based on IED communication protocols of various brands and provide system planning services such as IED planning, SCADA software construction, and high and medium voltage power protection monitoring. It constructs a complete IEC 61850 test equipment mechanism and verification platform for smart substations, which can improve operation efficiency, monitor power grid quality and personnel safety with the least cost.
